Finding Courses and Materials
Tips to help you find what you need
I Don’t See My Current Courses
At the start of the semester there are a few reasons you may not see your current courses:
- Courses are not available to students until the Start of Term date has arrived and the course is published by the instructor. (These courses may be listed under Future Enrollments when you go to Courses > All Courses in the global navigation.)
- Registration changes take some time to propagate from OPUS to Canvas. Enrollment changes can take as long as 24 hours to be reflected.
- You may need to update your favorite courses if you don't see current courses on your Dashboard. To do this, visit the All Courses screen and star the courses you want to favorite. This updates your Card View in the dashboard.
- Courses become unavailable to students after the End of term date, or Course or Section date set by instructors.
Where are My Old Courses?
After courses are complete, they become unavailable to students after the End of term date, or Course or Section date set by instructors.
Some elements of concluded courses, such as Grades, may be accessed by going to Courses > All Courses in the global navigation and scrolling down to Past Enrollments.
Finding Course Material
Perhaps the most important thing to know is that instructors all use Canvas differently and may organize their courses however makes sense to them. Course Home page, Assignments, or Modules are some of the places to check, but you may have to ask your instructor directly how to find different materials and activities in Canvas.
You may also want to toggle among the different views on your Canvas Dashboard: Card View which shows your favorite course, List View which shows to do items, and Recent Activity View which shows updates across all your current courses.
